Race Report - Harrison Leach
What a race it could’ve been.
Qualifying didn’t go our way with me making a mistake going into turn 13 (Tower), pushing too hard into the corner overloading the front tires causing understeer losing 6 tenths which lost us out on pole and dropped us all the way to P11.
Starting in P11 meant we had our work cut out for us in the first few laps which was crucial for our race. We had a good start gaining a couple positions in the first lap of the race and gaining on the main pack in front. We were up to P9 when we caught up to the first pack of traffic, and this is where it all started. There was a big crash involving 2 GTP’S which gained us a few positions. During the same lap I made a bold move into the last corner gaining 2 positions bringing us up to P4 throughout all the chaos lapping the GT3’S. We were running in P5 when our luck eventually ran out, going round the big bend and into the Hairpin my connection cut out kicking me into the replay mode dropping us 3 and a half minutes/nearly 2 laps down in last place. This was a hard pill to swallow after such a clean and faultless first double stint, but we just needed to put our heads back down.
When other GTP’S started dropping like fly’s during the final stint due to tiredness and fatigue we kept our focus and put in consistent laps right until the checkered flag. It was a long 12 hours with the lowest of lows, but we came out on top and brought the car home in a respectable p5 in split 4, for our first ever 12-hour race.
Bring on the rest of the year!
