Race Report - Owen Neuman

The Spa 24 Hour went pretty much as expected. Even though I hadn’t spoken to any of my teammates outside of text before the race, we came together well.

With the main morning timeslot, we thought we’d land in Split 3 or 4 but ended up in Split 2. That meant one thing: tough competition. Preparation during the week was all about consistency. I knew outright pace wouldn’t be enough to fight at the front, especially running a safer setup with rain in the forecast. Maciej put in a solid qualifying lap for P52 far enough back to stay clear of early chaos, especially up Eau Rouge.

Lap 1 was all about survival. We avoided major incidents, though we did have a spin, dropping us into the mid 40s. Once things settled, we found our rhythm and worked our way up to around P30. From there, it was all about consistency keeping it clean, hitting our marks, and sticking to a simple strategy: survive each stint, pit, refuel, change tires, and rotate drivers. The middle and night stints were quiet. My night stint felt like one of the longest I’ve ever done I was so tired I nearly dozed off near the end. Luckily, it was almost time to hand over and get some rest. Heading into the final hours, we were locked in a battle with P30/P31, holding position through consistency rather than outright speed. In the end, we crossed the line in P31.

Not the result we dreamed of, but a solid recovery after a rough start in one of the toughest races on the calendar. Huge shoutout to Johannes, Maciej, Lennon, and Helder for the teamwork We’ll come back stronger next time with more prep
